On May 21, the grand opening of the VII International Puppet Theater Festival “Orteke” took place at the Republican State Academic Korean Theater of Musical Comedy.
This large-scale cultural event brought together professional puppet theaters from Kazakhstan, Georgia, Turkey, Uzbekistan, and Azerbaijan, offering residents and guests of the city a unique opportunity to experience the best of puppet theater artistry.
Welcome speeches were delivered by:
- Chairman of the jury of the 7th International Puppet Theater Festival “Orteke,” Honored Worker of Kazakhstan, and Director of the Kazakh State Academic Drama Theater named after M. Auezov — Erkin Tleukulovich Zhuasbek;
- Chief Expert of the Department of Theater Arts at the Committee for Culture of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan — Gulnafiz Sovetkhanovna Myrzasheva.
The event was attended by prominent cultural figures, Almaty residents and guests, as well as representatives from the TURKSOY organization.
Following the official part, the first competition performance took place: “Ali Kushchi” by F. Mirzaev and A. Niyazov from the Samarkand Regional Puppet Theater (Uzbekistan), marking a bright start to the festival’s vibrant program.
Festival competition performances will be held at several venues:
- Republican State Academic Korean Theater of Musical Comedy
- State Puppet Theater of Almaty
- Kazakh State Academic Theater for Children and Youth named after Gabit Musrepov
- Total Theater
An international jury, composed of leading theater professionals from Kazakhstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, and Turkey, will evaluate the performances.
