Tonight, the theater staged the fourth performance of the movement-based production “Contours of a Phantom”!
This collaboration between the Korean Theater and the Samruk Contemporary Dance Theater became a space for reflecting on the evolving landscape of dance in Kazakhstan.
The project merges past and present, tradition and innovation. What links traditional Korean dance with contemporary styles like contemporary dance? Contemporary dance embraces a variety of techniques and expressive forms, yet it finds common ground with Korean dance—through controlled emotion, focused breathing, fluidity, and intricate footwork. The Korean step itself is an art form.
Not a single word was spoken, yet the physicality of the performers pulled the audience into the deepest layers of fear and uncertainty. It was both a conversation and a solitary reflection—spoken through movement, gaze, and breath.
The new generation of theater artists is focusing on visual storytelling and non-verbal communication in experimental projects, engaging audiences in a way that provokes thought and curiosity.
Thank you to everyone who shared this evening with us! We invite you to our upcoming performances—let’s explore new dimensions of our vibrant culture together!
