“The celebration of the 175th anniversary of Abai is necessary for the spiritual development of the nation,” said President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in his article “Abai and Kazakhstan in the 21st century” – “But all this is necessary not just for the sake of celebration, but for us to learn think broader, develop spiritually. Undoubtedly, Abai Kunanbayuly left an indelible mark on the history of our country as a scientist, thinker, poet, educator, founder of new national literature, translator and composer. His poems and prose reflected the national identity, way of life, worldview, character, soul, faith, language, traditions and spirit of the people, which were later evaluated as a unique phenomenon, called the world of Abai.
On August 10, 2020, the State Republican Academic Korean Theater prepared three short videos for Abai’s songs: “Kozemnin karasy” and “Aittym salem, Kalamkas”, as well as an excerpt from Abai’s poem “Gylym tappay maktanba”, which you can see on theater accounts on Facebook, Instagram, Youtube channel and the theater website.
For the 175th anniversary of Abai, the theater team is preparing the premiere of the philosophical parable “If I am called a man” based on the works of Abai, which will take place on September 30, 2020. The performance was based on “Words of Edification”, poetry and songs of Abai. “What is a man?” – this is the question that the heroes of the performance ask themselves and leave the choice to everyone who asks this question to themselves.
